I just read through Kenneth Van
Gorder's Kno-Knownsense Knots, and as a lifelong sailor I found the
methodology that Ken used to be extremely simple and concise, I have been using
knots and teaching marlinespike seamanship for over 50 years and I wish that I'd
had his book for all of those years. he has included more than 250 clear photos,
shows methods for tying the 60 essential knots. A third of the knots are tied
from the same starting point (a formation that he calls "the pretzel"). The
pretzel, which may be formed in one second, makes learning faster and recall
easier. Basic knotting under normal conditions is covered first, followed by a
chapter on using knot combinations and using knots for outdoor activities. The
final chapter covers emergency/survival knotting. It includes one-handed
knotting, cold-hand knotting, and knotting in the dark. There are no trick knots
involved. Just special methods for knotting-by-touch. Anyone can learn
trouble-time knotting. Questions? Ask the author at

into the mind of the patients after being a care giver to her aunt and mother.
this book is a Must Read if you are dealing with or anticipating dealing with an

FLUKE by Christopher Moore
Just why do humpback whales sing? That's the question that has marine behavioral biologist Nate Quinn and his crew poking, charting, recording, and photographing very big, wet, gray marine mammals. Until the extraordinary day when a whale lifts its tail into the air to display a cryptic message spelled out in foot-high letters: Bite me. Trouble is, Nate's beginning to wonder if he hasn't spent just a little too much time in the sun. Cause no one else on his team saw a thing -- not his longtime partner, Clay Demodocus; not their saucy young research assistant; not even the spliff-puffing white-boy Rastaman Kona (né Preston Applebaum). But later, when a roll of film returns from the lab missing the crucial tail shot -- and his research facility is trashed -- Nate realizes something very fishy indeed is going on.
By turns witty, irreverent, fascinating, puzzling, and surprising, Fluke is Christopher Moore at his outrageous best.
"If you ever wondered what happened to Amelia Earheart or all those folks lost in the Bermuda Triangle; if you ever wonder about the nature of God; if you wonder ‘why the winged whale sings'; if you want to experience the greatest satirist since Jonathan Swift -- you just have to read FLUKE."
