Well known sailor, river rat and general water maven Ken Medernach is joining up with wilderness hiker and outdoorsman Brooks Franklin; the two are planning a 300 plus mile trip, starting in Macon, Georgia and continuing through middle Georgia, until the Ocmulgee joins with the Oconee at Lumber City and forms the Altamaha. once the team reaches the coast they will decide on whether or not to head north to Savannah or South to Brunswick.
Ken made part of this voyage when he was a young man, on a home made raft, this voyage is chronicled in A Few Days on a Raft, Down the Altamaha River, this tale is part of his recently published book; On the High Seas.
The team is in negations with several boat manufacturers to choose the right craft for the journey. One boat, and the boat of choice is the Heritage 18' by Little River Marine of Gainesville, Florida.
The sliding seat as shown below would be omitted, The H-18 would permit the team to carry enough provisions as necessary and also might allow for a nap while the other member navigates the river.
Negotiations are also in progress with other equipment manufacturers:
I.E.: outdoor clothing, PFD's, Camping and cooking, MRE's, Sunscreen, Insect repellants, fishing tackle, Camera recording equipment,
The team has also been in contact with several outdoor magazines for the exclusive rights to the trip, the the team is in communications with Altamaha River Keeper for affiliation
